History of the Robert H. Manning Memorial Lighthouse

You may be asking who is Robert H. Manning and why does he have a lighthouse? According to several books I have, Manning was a resident of Empire and a local fisherman. Every day he could get out onto the lake, he was there. He had often commented about how much a lighthouse would help him back into shore. When he passed away, his family decided to honor him by having a lighthouse created. One book says that the Coast Guard will soon add it to their official charts and an aid to navigation. Mr. Manning would be very proud of his family!

Directions: From SR-22 in the Town of Empire, make a left onto Niagara Street and follow that to the end (S. Lake Michigan Drive) and right into the little park that houses the Robert H. Manning Memorial Light.
