Dennis Kent has provided some information on this light.
A light has been on this reef since 1891. It is a busy spot at the top of Lake Michigan as ships head to and from the tip of the mitt. This crib light was built in 1936. It had a 3.5 fresnel lens but was automated in 1976. This photo was taken 7/7/2007. Shepler's Ferry has a lighthouse tour that goes to lights west of Macinaw City and another that goes to lights on the east, Lake Huron side. Both tours go under the Macinaw Bridge for a unique perspective. It is the best way to see these off shore lights and appreciate what the lighthouse keepers had to contend with.
Directions: The lighthouse sits out in Lake Michigan. It is best viewed by boat.
