1889 Santa Cruz Lighthouse (Courtesy Coast Guard)
This is not the original Santa Cruz lighthouse built in 1889. I read somewhere that a couple built this light as a memorial to their son who drown off this point surfing. That is why it now houses a surfing museum. Notice the guy with the multi-color surf board standing in front of the lighthouse?
Directions: One in the City of Santa Cruz on Highway 1 (called Mission Street), look for Bay Street. Take Bay Street towards the ocean. This will end at West Cliff Drive. Make a right onto West Cliff Drive and follow that south towards Lighthouse State Beach. The lighthouse will be on the grounds of the State Beach.
