This lighthouse was built to replace the old Buffalo lightship which was lost at sea in 1913. You can tell by the way this lighthouse was built, very stout, that the lake can get quite nasty. The lighthouse is of a very unique architecture and is like no other lighthouse on the Great Lakes. The lighthouse itself is made out of sculptured concrete and has some amazing details.
Directions: From the QEW in Fort Erie, exit at exit 7 which is Bowen Road. Follow Bowen Road west to Point Abino Road North. Follow this south to the end. The road near the tip is a private road, and therefore closed to the public. The lighthouse is owned by the Town of Fort Erie. To gain access to the lighthouse, you must be a part of the guided tour run by the town. For more information on the tours, please visit the Fort Erie Parks page.
