Yaquina Head Lighthouse

Newport, Oregon - 1873

Lighthouse Picture

All the building supplies for this light were dropped ashore here at Yaquina Head, soon after the builders began assembling the light, they realized it was in the wrong spot. The original intended location was Cape Foulweather further to the north. It was too late to turn back, so they finished the light anyway which made the Yaquina Bay light redundant. Since this light had the more powerful lens, the first-order Fresnel, the Bay light was extinguished.

Directions: In the Town of Agate Beach, follow NW Lighthouse Drive to the end.
